A coroner’s inquest will be held in the death of 18-year-old Reilly Anzovino.

She was killed in an icy late night Boxing Day accident on Hwy. 3 near the boundary of Fort Erie and Port Colborne.

Council approves Bay Beach condo zoning »

Town council approved a zoning amendment last night that would allow the construction of a 12-storey condominium building on the Bay Beach waterfront.

Councillors approved the amendment around midnight in a 4-3 vote with Rick Shular siding with Ann-Marie Noyes and Bob Steckley in opposition.

Richard Berry turfed from council meeting »

About 12 hours after he registered as a candidate in the municipal election, Richard Berry was kicked out of a town council meeting Monday night.

He was repeatedly warned by planning committee chairman Tim Whitfield to temper his remarks while he spoke in opposition to the Bay Beach project.

Youthful prowlers busted in Crescent Park »

Two youths were arrested after having been reported prowling the Crescent Park neighbourhood and checking vehicles early Saturday morning.

Niagara Regional Police say they recovered a number of stolen items.

A 17-year-old Fort Erie boy and a 16-year-old St. Catharines boy were charged with trespass by night and possession of stolen goods.

They can not be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Residents are reminded to keep sheds and garages locked.

Province adds $14M to NHS funding »

Fort Erie mayor Doug Martin said late Friday afternoon that the McGuinty government has coughed up an additional $14 million to the base budget of the Niagara Health System.

“Well they lost $16 million last year, and now they’ve got $14,” Martin said. “Where are they going to spend it, that’s the question.”

Pair beaten with bat in home invasion »

A male and female were beaten with a baseball bat when a couple of thugs entered their Fort Erie home around 3 a.m. Sunday.

They were in an upper apartment at an undisclosed address when two unknown males force their way in and struck both occupants, Niagara Regional Police say.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment of what police describe as minor injuries.
