HST Seminar
A new sales tax comes into effect on July 1 and a representative from the Canada Revenue Agency will explain the Harmonized Sales Tax for business people at the Centennial Library.
The seminar is sponsored by the Business Success and Loan Centre and the Fort Erie Public Library and begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs til noon.
The cost is $5 (it’s not known if that includes GST). Call the library at 871-2546 to register.
Saturday, June 19
Branch collection
Branch collection for single family homes and apartments with five units or less will take place on select Saturdays. Crews will pick up branches if left at the curb and tied in bundles no larger than three feet in length and 18 inches in diameter and weighing less than 50 pounds. Individual branches in the bundles must be no larger than three inches in diameter. Tree stumps will not be collected.
Twigs smaller than half an inch and a foot long can be included with weekly organics collection.
Branch collection in Fort Erie will also take place July 10.
Saturday, June 19
Alzheimer Niagara Fundraiser
The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region will hold a barbecue and bake sale from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Garrison Place Retirement Residence, 373 Garrison Road.
Also featured will be a garden flower sale, entertainment, silent auction, raffles and more.
Funds raised will remain in Niagara to support programs and services to more than 7,700 people and their families affected by progressing dementia.
Donations for the auction and baked goods are welcome.

Crystal Beach Arts and Folk Festival
The sixth annual Crystal Beach Arts and Folk Festival will be held at the Crystal Beach Waterfront Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The festival showcases artists from southern Ontario and western New York whose works include watercolours, acrylics, photography, sculpture, glass art and much more.
Music will be provided by local musicians Elton Lammie, Rita Vasser, Richard Hunt, the Aurijinal Junes and the duo of Brad Hilliker and Michelle Guy.
Kids can join the fun in the supervised crafts corner where they will make something they can take home.
Food will be provided by the Crystal Ridge Skating Club who will operate a barbecue and food concession at the park.
